SIDEYARD COURTYARD

Strong forms create a garden nook from an ‘in-between’ transition space.

Looking to reclaim a portion of side and back yard from a degraded driveway, we anchored this nook with two raised planters and a chalet-style garden shed with a green roof. The strong gestural shape of the planters tuck in a small patio built with reclaimed concrete from the existing driveway.

Access to an existing wood shop and HVAC components are carefully considered yet obscured within the overall flowing and loose nature of the space.

Planting is varied and dense, providing cool and soft contrast to the warm corten steel framework.
