HUGE TEST

An ongoing investigation into dry gardening in the PNW.

Though this front garden now sits beneath four mature windmill palms (T. fortunei) and two juvenile snow gums, it was likely part of a white oak or Douglas fir savannah before being cleared for lumber, farming and then housing. Seeking to pull a thread from this previous state, we planted a matrix of west-coast native sedges and fescues punctuated by perennials and more grasses from other summer dry environments.

We only irrigate a few times a month during the height of summer to keep things looking fresh.

Simple concrete site work provides structure to the intentionally shaggy planting.
